The Élémentaire.
Our collections often have working titles until they are fully formed and we know entirely properly what to call them. This one was referred to for a while as “Stylishly Simple”, which it is, but deserved something more befitting its South of France roots and so we settled upon Élémentaire. Elementary - relating to the basic, essential or fundamental part of something.
With each illustration we try to cut to the very root of the occasion and present something elegantly simple that our characters (to whom this collection belongs in our minds) Henri and Françoise would adore sending.
Personality:
Wild and free, authentic, thoughtful, confident, creative, artistic, passionate, earthy, expressive, classic.
Colours:
Simple monochrome line drawings that can be brought to life with the addition of warm and muted colour or paper choices.
Geographic origin:
A simple and stylish apartment overlooking a Place de Something Fabulous. Henri speaks loudly from the window to passers by below whilst Françoise paints.
Design notes.
Pair classically styled illustrations with quirky themes for a creative, quietly confident aesthetic.
Could utilise hand made papers and letterpress for a more embodied feel.
